Tuesday, February 28th officially starts the 2023 election season. Potential candidates will meet with Board of Elections officials as well as Democratic Committee members to pick up petitions and begin working to get potential candidates on the ballot for the 2023 election cycle.
At the top of the offices up for election in 2023 is the 6th Supreme Court Judicial District. This district encompasses Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga & Tompkins Counties.
At the County level, we will elect a Chemung County Court Justice. Currently, Justice Richard Rich is one of two Chemung County Court Justices and is petitioning to run for re-election. The offices of Chemung County District Attorney and Chemung County Sheriff will also be up for election.
All City of Elmira offices will be up for grabs, starting with the office of Mayor and also City Council districts 1-6. We will also elect two City of Elmira Constables as well.
In addition, there will be several town offices and town justices up for election in Big Flats, Erin, Horseheads, Elmira, Ashland, Southport, Veteran, Baldwin, and Chemung.
