Batrowny to Challenge Republican Incumbent

Elmira Democrat Bill Batrowny has announced his candidacy against Assemblyman Chris Friend for New York’s 124th Assembly District seat.

“I’m emphasizing that we need somebody in the 124th district to be a true leader and a voice and bring forth the real interests for our people here in the Southern Tier,” Batrowny said.

An Elmira native, Batrowny served in law enforcement for two decades before retiring as a detective sergeant for the City of Elmira. He is also a military veteran and former small business owner.

Corruption is one of his biggest concerns, Batrowny said.

“We need to look into the ethics and corruption problem that we have (in Albany),” Batrowny said. “We need to get some real solutions.”

Job creation is also important, he said.

“We need to utilize every resource we have to create new jobs,” Batrowny said. “I think that’s why all of our young people are leaving the area now.

“We need to promote new entrepreneurs and new business as well as ensure our current employees prosper,” he added.
