It is tantalizing to wonder as Ben Bernanke did before stepping down as Fed chairman, how much better the economy would be today, and how many millions more would have jobs, if this inept Congress hadn’t done so much over the past few years to drag down growth. One of the best things I read a awhile back was sent to me from a friend and fellow committee member Dick Reidy. He sent it in an email titled Read, Weep, Print and Keep which I did. It was a column written by Charley Reese for the Orlando Sentinel, his last after 49 years as a journalist.
545 VS 3,000,000,000 PEOPLE –BY CHARLEY REESE It’s a short but good read.
Here is a quote: “politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them” ( I Think about Tom Reed as a good example!)
As I read his column I thought about how citizens may have areas where we disagree because we might belong to different political party’s or subscribe to various viewpoints and ideologies creating differences of opinion. I think as concerned citizens dependent on a good education, the ability to find a good paying job, affordable college education for our children, a good affordable health insurance plan, Social Security and Medicare we have a mutual stake in maintaining the social safety net for seniors that are their earned benefits as well as an economy where anyone can find work. I urge each and every one of you to vote and if you are not registered please do so and start voting in 2015. Voting matters who gets elected affects every part of our lives, the roads and bridges we travel on, the water we drink, the air we breath our children and grand children’s ability to find a good paying job and a quality retirement for all!
I am going to share with you some more thoughts from 535VS300 million: Have you ever wondered if both Democrats and Republicans are against deficits, why we have deficits. You and I don’t propose the federal budget, the president does and we don’t have the constitutional authority to vote on appropriations the house does! You and I don’t write tax code or set fiscal policy congress does and the Federal Reserve Bank controls monetary policy.
One hundred senators, 435 Congressmen or women, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of 300 million who are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague our country.
These 545 people and they alone are responsible and have the power we gave them with our vote. They should be held accountable by we the people who are their bosses provided we the voters have the gumption to manage our employees. We the voters can hold them accountable but we must vote!
