
Wendy Nichols announced candidacy for Elmira City Council, District 6.
ELMIRA, NY. Wendy Nichols announced her candidacy for Elmira City Council District 6, on Monday, February 25th. A small rally took place at 3:30PM in the hall of CWA Local 1111, located at 459 E. Church St. Elmira, NY.
Wendy is a single mother of 4 children and a lifelong Elmira resident. She is currently the Public Sector Vice President for CWA Local 1111, and she’s also a small business owner.
Bill McCarthy, Legislator for District 12, introduced Wendy, and several other officials from the Democratic party as well as the Central Labor Council were in attendance.
Elmira’s 6th district covers a portion of the Southside of Elmira, and the position is currently held by incumbent Councilmember Nanette Moss.
Her 3 priorities for City Council are as follows:
- Work with law enforcement to tackle crime in the community, and implement implicit bias training to address discriminatory practices among law enforcement officials.
- Tackle zombie properties and implement stricter guidelines for both landlords as well as tenants.
- Revitalize downtown Elmira
