CCDC Does Not Support NYS Senate Candidate, Amanda Kirchgessner

The Chemung County Democratic Committee Chair, Jim Carr, announced that Committee Members voted, after thorough discussion during its October 9th meeting, to rescind support for Amanda Kirchgessner, Democratic candidate for NYS Senate from the 58th District.

Committee members were unaware of allegations of domestic abuse against Kirchgessner until they appeared in an Oct. 3rd Ithaca Times article. As a result, Carr and members of the executive committee discussed the matter with Kirchgessner, voiced their concerns, and then brought the matter to the earliest scheduled monthly meeting. The members, as a whole, recognize that domestic abuse issues are personal, and yet, reflect a societal problem that must be addressed. The committee stands together on this matter. Summed up by CCDC Chair, Jim Carr, “Withdrawing support for Kirchgessner is the right thing to do.”

As Election Day approaches, voters must clearly focus on issues in New York, and nationally, that will shape our future.
