<h3>Running for office in the "new" era of an Oligarchy!</h3>Well...its 2025 and now, we're here! Maybe we're here because you didn't care to vote in the last election (and if you didn't vote, we'd really like to hear what were your reasons.) Maybe we're here because you did vote in the last election...for whomever you chose to vote for. It really doesn't matter, because either way...here we are. What do we mean by here? The 47th President of the United States has been inaugurated (again). A President who wants to buy Greenland, change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and wants to incorporate Canada &amp; Panama into the United States. (Mind you, none of these are even remotely local issues of concern!) So, as the title of a book by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once asked; "Where do we go from here - chaos or community?" If your choice is community...consider being of service to help make our local communities better. Consider running for office. Don't do it so you can be a political bigwig. Don't do it for the money, because full disclosure: local offices don't pay much. Do it to truly make a contribution that will make life better and improve local conditions. We'll be posting political offices in the towns and villages of Chemung County that will become open for election in 2025. We're also going to offer resources and training on how to run for office, taught by past candidates, those experienced in running campaigns, and members of the Chemung County Board of Elections. We're also improving on our listening skills by holding voter surveys, open seminars, and town halls giving those in our local communities a chance for input to voice their concerns. This is how we start to change things from the bottom up. By changing conditions where we live, that will affect you and your neighbors the most. This is how we navigate the next 2 &amp; 4 years, until we can get to the next Presidential election. Because right now, conditions indicate that we're getting ready to enter a rocky sea of chaos. The next four years will surely have their challenges, but this year will be crucial in identifying and getting elected local candidates in the towns &amp; villages of Chemung County. The late President Carter once stated: "The more involvement that people have in choosing their own leaders and shaping their own destiny, the better off they are!" <h3>P25; The Comic Book Version</h3>Seth Meyer's released a version of Project 2025 in comic book form. He's gathered award winning illustrators together to make a series of comics to explain some of the P25 agenda. They feel you shouldn’t have to read the P25 monstrosity. It’s more than fifty times as long as the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution…combined. Project 2025 is longer because it’s a detailed plan to shut you up, and shut you out. <h3>Seeking Candidates to run for local Chemung County offices!</h3>If you want to make a difference, consider running for office. Many elected positions will become open in 2025. Don't do it for the money, because full disclosure: local offices don't pay much. Do it to make a contribution that will make things better and improve local conditions. The CCDC offers resources and training on how to run for office taught by those experienced in running both local &amp; national campaigns, along with members of the Chemung County Board of Elections. The New Member committee will reach out to the prospective member to review the role of membership, discuss the CCDC organization and answer any questions you might have? The Chemung County Legislature is composed of 15 legislators, who each represent a district. A District Leader is a member of the Executive Committee. Responsible for communicating and organizing voter registration, voters and other community activity in their respective regions.</li></ul><ul><li>Do I have to petition to be on the Committee? Every 2 (two) years, Committee members are asked to canvass in their voting districts and have registered Democratic voters sign a petition agreeing to have the committee member represent them on the Chemung County Democratic Committee. The Chairperson of the Committee has the option to waive certain members who may be too old, have disabilities, or other extenuating circumstances that prevent them from petitioning. All Committee Members are expected to petition and support Committee endorsed candidates.</li></ul><ul><li>How many meetings do I have to attend? Committee members are required to attend at least 4 (four) meetings per calendar year.</li></ul>

<h2>The local community discusses Project 2025</h2>With the release of the Project 2025 Mandate, it's been determined that P25 is one of the biggest threats to our American democracy. We needed to scrutinize the over 900+ page document and examine exactly what was that threat. The Chemung County Democratic Committee (CCDC) engaged in 2 public local community discussions, where we openly discuss the agenda. The items below are what we uncovered, and as we endeavor to endure the next 4 years, we hope the information provided below helps you to discover for yourself the steps others will take to curtail our freedom, and destroy our democratic government.At the request of attendees to the community discussions, we've duplicated the PowerPoint presentations, where possible. We understand that it would be traditionally prudent to speak of the inauguration and it's pageantry, as has been done for the past 46 inaugurations. But, 2025 looks like it's going to be the year that breaks with tradition, by swearing in a President with 36 felony convictions. Instead, we're going to direct your attention to President Biden's last last 20 minutes in office, when he pardoned 5 members of his own family. These pardons weren't given because his family members had broken some law, or committed a heinous crime. These pardons were cautiously issued to protect his family from any possible retribution wielded by the in-coming administration. We are indeed living in unprecedented times. Inauguration 2025

On January 14th, Governor Kathy Hochul delivered her State of the State address detailing her proposals to put money back in people’s pockets, keep New Yorkers safe, and fight for our families.&nbsp; Governor Hochul announced over 200 initiatives including: <ul><li> Inflation refund checks that would provide a $500 payment for families making less than $300,000, and a $300 payment for individual New York taxpayers filing less than $150,000.</li><li>Major Expansion of Child Tax Credit: the proposal the largest expansion of the Child Tax Credit in the program’s history. Governor Hochul’s plan would give 1.6 million New York families an annual tax credit of up to $1,000 per child under age four, and up to $500 per child from four through sixteen.</li><li>Cutting taxes and making New York more affordable for more than 8.3 million middle class New Yorkers. The proposal of a historic tax cut for every filer making under $325,000 — will represent the lowest middle class tax rate in 70 years.</li><li>Universal Free School Meals: A plan to provide free school meals to all New York students. The free school breakfast and lunch program is estimated to put approximately $1,200-$1,600 back in a family’s pocket for a single year.</li><li>Updating the Involuntary Commitment Law and strengthening Kendra's Law to ensure New Yorkers with severe mental illness are connected with the care they need. The Governor plans to propose language to add an additional standard for involuntary commitment — she doesn’t take that lightly. Her plan does not criminalize homelessness or mental illness. However, if someone–because of their mental illness is unable to accept help to meet their basic needs like sourcing food, etc., then they must be engaged with compassionately to connect them with the help they need.</li><li>Expanding Beds to Increase Access to Involuntary Commitment Standards: Currently, state law allows for involuntary commitment if you are an imminent threat to yourself or others. Governor Hochul is proposing to adopt a ‘grave disability standard’. Gov. Hochul's State of the State Address

The Democratic party and the world have lost one of its iconic, and truly unsung heroes with the passing of the 39th President of the United States, James Earl Carter Jr. &nbsp;&nbsp;His accomplishments as president were only surpassed by the humanitarian legacy he and his wife left through quiet and faithful service to the American people by building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Without promotion or fanfare, they volunteered for many years after serving as President, setting an example of "true" public service to the people, one home at a time. His wife Rosalynn preceded him 13 months prior, but President Carter made it clearly known his goal was to live long enough to cast his vote in the 2024 Presidential election for candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, a goal he was able to achieve.The Chemung County Democratic Committee mourns the loss and sends our condolences to the family of President Carter, the Democratic Party, and all Americans who fondly remember President Jimmy Carter for his service to the American people. From the peanut farm, the U.S. Navy, the White House and beyond, his life is an example of true humanitarian for us all. CCDC PRESS RELEASE:Oct. 13, 2024 - Elmira, NYThe Chemung County Democratic Committee held its reorganizational meeting to elect committee officers on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Congratulations goes out to Jamal Malik, who was re-elected as Chair to serve his 2nd term in office.&nbsp; Also re-elected were Tina Kane as Committee Treasurer, and Halie Saunders as Committee Secretary. Newly elected officers were Dawn Bush as Towns Chair (replacing Jim Carr), and Willie Owens as City Chair (who replaces Jackie Wilson). Owens, Carr and Wilson also serve as State Party Representatives, along with Mary Carr, to complete the newly reduced Executive Committee.Congratulations also goes out to the new District Leaders of the city of Elmira. How could this have gotten so messed up?’&nbsp;White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson did not respond directly to reports of internal backlash at the White House but told The Post in a written statement, “as Teamsters President Sean O’Brien said on Tuesday: ‘Joe Biden is the most pro-union President we’ve ever had,'" referencing a CNN interview O’Brien gave after the convention.&nbsp;“He’s fought for higher wages, better working conditions, and has already protected more than 1 million union pensions while in office — including for more than half a million Teamsters," Patterson said. In his address, O’Brien acknowledged that Trump’s invitation to him to speak at the convention had sparked “political unrest” on both sides of the political spectrum. “The left called me a traitor,” he said to a round of boos from the audience. Vance are on the bosses’ side.” “We won’t be fooled,” Shuler said.&nbsp;“It’s disappointing to see a national labor leader speak like that at the GOP convention,” said Matthew Biggs, president of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, which has 90,000 members. “Make no mistake about it, their intent is to crush federal unions and have mass firings of federal employees and turn the government into an at-will employer where people are hired and fired based on their political leanings.”&nbsp;Jimmy Williams Jr., president of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, representing 140,000 skilled trades union members, called O’Brien “a brother of mine” but noted that “on this issue we respectfully disagree.” “The Republican Party platform doesn’t do a thing to help unions or working people,” Williams said. “And what we are hearing in this campaign is no different.”&nbsp;It’s not surprising that a number of top labor unions are angry, experts say. “Many labor leaders and rank-and-file members, inside and outside the Teamsters, are upset and feel betrayed by O’Brien’s speaking at a convention of the party that has been vehemently anti-union,” said Kate Bronfenbrenner, director of labor education research at Cornell University, citing conversations with union officials. “We have the Teamsters now endorsing, whether directly or indirectly, a Republican candidate that is very antilabor.”O’Brien began as a rank-and file Teamsters member and quickly scaled the ranks of his local Boston union. He took over the Teamsters top job two years ago, after winning a union election on a reform platform. He promised stronger contracts at UPS and an aggressive approach toward organizing the vast landscape of nonunion Amazon warehouses that now dominate the logistics space. His tenure ended decades of Hoffa family leadership.&nbsp;Democrats on Capitol Hill also expressed astonishment at O’Brien’s appearance at the convention. The Teamsters have received backing from Democrats to launch campaigns against Amazon’s labor practices and save its union members’ pensions.&nbsp;“The Democratic Party is pro-labor union and pro-worker,” said Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.), the son of a Teamster, responding to O’Brien’s address. “Every single Democrat in Congress voted to save the pensions of hundreds of thousands of Teamsters workers. And every Republican voted against it.”O’Brien’s Republican convention appearance rankled one progressive group so much that it is taking the unusual step of mounting an official campaign urging O’Brien specifically to endorse the Democratic nominee. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is&nbsp;<a href="https://act.boldprogressives.org/survey/petition_2024_teamsters/?source=wp" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" style="color: var(--wpds-colors-onBackground)">asking Teamsters members</a>&nbsp;to speak out against O’Brien. “It is misinformation to stay neutral in 2024 if Donald Trump and Republicans won’t publicly match the Democratic Party’s strong pro-worker agenda,” the group said.&nbsp;Labor unions are among top financial backers of the Democratic Party. For decades, the Teamsters mostly contributed to Democrats, and the Teamsters supported Democrats in more than 90 percent of their contributions this election cycle, according to data from Open Secrets, a Washington nonprofit that tracks campaign contributions. Earlier this year, the Teamsters donated $45,000 to the RNC, its first large contribution to Republicans in years. The Teamsters also sent at least $150,000 to the Democratic National Committee this cycle.&nbsp;Most major unions have rallied behind Biden, and some are likely to be prominently featured at the Democratic National Convention next month. O’Brien has requested to speak at the Democratic convention but has yet to receive an invitation, Deniz, the Teamsters spokeswoman, previously told The Post.&nbsp;Democrats may see O’Brien’s support as buttressing pro-business forces, but GOP lawmakers hoping to change their own party are hoping more labor leaders follow his lead. After Hawley penned an&nbsp;<a href="https://www.compactmag.com/article/the-promise-of-pro-labor-conservatism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" style="color: var(--wpds-colors-onBackground)">opinion piece praising O’Brien’s convention speech</a>, while accusing corporate America of using profits to push DEI and “the religion of the trans flag,” the Teamsters’ official X account briefly rebuked the Hawley piece.Responding directly to O’Brien’s comments on X, calling Hawley’s article “100 % on point,” the Teamsters account said “unions gain nothing from endorsing the racist, misogynistic, and anti-trans politics of the far right, no matter how much people like Sen. Hawley attempt to tether such bigotry to a cynical pro-labor message.” The post was deleted but,&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/mattdpearce/status/1813449628312031536?s=46&amp;t=h7R_fnnlLjRQ8XOzWK8zDg" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" style="color: var(--wpds-colors-onBackground)">was captured in a screenshot and shared by journalist Matt Pearce.</a>&nbsp;

News worthy items were happening so fast that as soon as we recovered from one item, we were hit with another. The debate, the assassination attempt, the "Other Party's" convention and their VP Pick.
